Inspired by the 13th-century Malian epic of Sundiata, Queen Sassouma Bérété, driven by the desire to destroy her rival, sends Mali’s most powerful sorcerers to carry out what she cannot. They refuse, and in the distance, three owls circle above Sogolon’s home as protection. Some forces do not need defending. They simply are.
